Your role in elevating the East Midlands The Senior Policy Officer will report to the Head of Policy and Integration and will drive innovation, creative thinking and alternative ways of delivering key outcomes. You will make a significant contribution to the formulation, development, promotion and implementation of a range of projects and initiatives within an integrated policy and strategy framework. Your role will be integral in building the new policy team – one that can deliver real impact and enable long term policy development balanced with knowledgeable and robust short-term responsiveness. Key responsibilities include: Support for the Chief Executive with key briefings, coordination of briefings from the Strategy and Inclusive Growth team and wider organisation, horizon scanning and research as required. Developing and maintaining effective cross-organisational working and collaboration with external partners on policy development in relevant policy areas. Carrying out individual research and policy projects, procuring external support where appropriate. The provision of policy research, information, advice and support on issues which support the implementation of the organisation’s priorities. To research and draft clear, well-targeted and influential reports, briefings, speeches, articles, presentations and other publications on key issues as required, including on emerging significant issues within the region. Working closely with the Portfolio and Corporate Affairs Team to lobby and raise the profile of the policy positions of the Combined County Authority, the Mayor and wider East Midlands geography. Your profile: Demonstrable evidence of working alongside senior stakeholders and experience of building effective strategic working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders The ability to develop and write impactful briefs and highly developed written and oral presentation skills, with the ability to present complex ideas in a clear and comprehensible way. A record of achievement in a similar role and of operating in a complex policy environment, preferably in local and/or central government or relevant policy body/agency Demonstrable experience of developing people-focused policy or strategy or leading work on a similar policy area Evidence of negotiating, influencing and giving advice to politicians, senior managers and partner organisations Evidence of creative, innovative thinking, encouraging ideas from across teams, creatively working around new constraints and challenges and capable of translating ideas into policy and practice For more details on EMCCA, our rewards and benefits, and to apply, please visit our website via the button below.
