What the Job Involves As the Assistant Director of Finance, you will support the Executive Director of Strategy & Resources in ensuring robust financial administration and stewardship at the London Borough of Barnet. You will lead in developing and implementing the Council's financial strategy, ensuring sustainability and compliance with professional standards and legislative requirements. Managing a staff of approximately 40, along with contract management for external audits and systems providers, you will oversee a direct service budget of around £5 million and indirectly impact the Council’s gross expenditure of £982 million. Your role involves leading the budget-setting process, delivering timely financial intelligence, and ensuring efficient financial systems are in place. You will also collaborate with Council Members, strategic directors, partners, and stakeholders to address issues affecting services and residents, working to enhance change capability and innovation within the Council.
