1. Job Description
1.1 Overview
The Company SHEQ Auditor is responsible for conducting independent audits and inspections across all company sites to assess compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) standards. Reporting to the SHEQ Manager, the role ensures that projects, work sites, and operational procedures align with UK legislation, industry best practices, ISO standards, and company policies.
The SHEQ Auditor plays a key role in identifying risks, areas for improvement, and best practices to enhance overall SHEQ performance. This role requires regular travel to project sites to perform audits, investigations, and compliance checks.
1.2 Key Responsibilities
Audit & Inspection Responsibilities
1. Plan and conduct regular SHEQ audits and site inspections to assess compliance with company policies, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards, and UK legislation.
2. Identify non-conformances, hazards, and areas for improvement, making recommendations for corrective actions.
3. Conduct gap analysis assessments to measure SHEQ performance across projects and business units.
4. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SHEQ policies and procedures, providing feedback to the SHEQ Manager.
5. Ensure contractors and subcontractors meet company SHEQ requirements through regular compliance checks.
Health & Safety Compliance Responsibilities
1. Audit compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Streetworks Act CDM Regulations 2015, PUWER, COSHH, and LOLER.
2. Verify that risk assessments, method statements, and permits are in place and properly implemented.
3. Conduct accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, ensuring root cause analysis is completed and corrective actions are implemented.
4. Assess the effectiveness of emergency response plans, including fire safety and first aid provisions.
Environmental Compliance Responsibilities
1. Audit project adherence to environmental regulations, including the Environmental Protection Act 1990, The Waste Regulations 2011, and The Water Resources Act 1991.
2. Verify compliance with waste management, pollution prevention, and carbon footprint reduction initiatives.
3. Ensure projects meet ISO 14001 environmental management system requirements.
Quality Assurance Responsibilities
1. Conduct audits to ensure compliance with the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and company quality standards.
2. Assess and verify that standard operating procedures (SOPs) are being followed on all sites.
3. Identify non-conformance issues, recommending corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
4. Monitor supplier and contractor quality performance, ensuring they meet SHEQ expectations.
5. Compile detailed audit reports, including findings, risks, and recommended corrective actions.
6. Track non-conformance reports (NCRs) and ensure effective follow-up actions are completed.
7. Provide data-driven insights and trend analysis to support SHEQ improvement strategies.
8. Assist the SHEQ Manager in updating policies, procedures, and training programs based on audit findings.

2.1 Purpose of the Role
The Company SHEQ Auditor ensures that all company sites, projects, and operations comply with legal, regulatory, and company SHEQ standards through independent audits, inspections, and investigations. The role supports continuous improvement by identifying risks, best practices, and opportunities for enhancement.
2.2 Reporting Structure
1. Reports to: SHEQ Manager
2. Key Stakeholders: Project Managers, Site Managers, Compliance Officers, SHEQ Assistants, External Auditors, Contractors
2.3 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Audit & Inspection Performance
1. 100% completion of planned audits and site inspections.
2. Timely closure of identified non-conformances and corrective actions.
Health & Safety Compliance
1. Reduction in accident frequency rate (AFR) and near-misses following audit recommendations.
2. Full compliance with legal safety requirements and ISO 45001 standards.
3. 100% compliance with ISO 14001 audits and environmental legislation.
4. Reduction in environmental incidents and waste management non-conformances.
Quality Assurance
1. Successful ISO 9001 audits with minimal non-conformances.
2. Reduction in project quality defects and rework due to audit findings.
2.4 Required Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications
1. NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety.
2. ISO 9001, ISO 14001, or ISO 45001 Internal Auditor Certification.
3. Membership with IOSH, IEMA, or CQI (desirable).
4. CSCS Card or ability to obtain
Experience
1. 2+ years in a SHEQ auditing or compliance role within the utilities, construction, or infrastructure sectors.
2. Experience conducting site audits, inspections, and investigations.
3. Strong knowledge of UK SHEQ regulations, ISO standards, and industry best practices.
4. Track record of driving SHEQ improvements through audit findings.
5. Analytical and detail-oriented approach to audits and investigations.
6. Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with site teams and senior management.
7. Ability to interpret and apply complex SHEQ regulations in practical settings.
8. Report writing and data analysis skills to track trends and recommend improvements.
9. Ability to manage multiple audits across different locations in a structured manner.
10. Proficiency in risk management and SHEQ auditing software.
2.6 Additional Information
1. Travel Requirements: Regular travel to project sites for audits and inspections.
