About the area The Division of Student Life sits within the UWA Education Portfolio, overseen by the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Education. Together with the Division of Student Accommodation and Community, Student Life plays an integral role in the shared strategic goal of providing a world-class student experience. The Student Wellbeing and Engagement teams facilitates a high-quality student experience through the provision of integrated and comprehensive services. The Wellbeing team is responsible for the delivery of the UWA Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework focusing on opportunities for early intervention and timely access to low barrier services. Student Wellbeing has four broad areas of Counselling services; early intervention services and cohort initiatives in Student Wellbeing; Student Engagement and the provision of a contemporary onboarding experience and the creation of a Respectful and Safer Communities team, as a priority strategic initiative. About the opportunity You will, under close direction, engage and support students as a Peer Supporter for The Living Room (TLR). Provide students increased opportunities for meaningful, accessible, responsive, evidence-based and research driven support in a low barrier non-clinical setting. Deliver consistent, transparent, and high-quality, confidential support to a diverse community of students. About you Ability to work within and contribute to the vision, core values and principles of the Living Room. Strong emotional resilience to handle challenging and sensitive situations along with verbal interpersonal communication and listening skills, showing empathy, compassion, and patience. Relevant experience in peer support work or experience identifying signs of distress or risk and responding appropriately, including the use of de-escalation techniques (desirable). Ability to work in a collaborative, purpose driven team ensuring reliability and consistency of performance. Current UWA student with at least one semester of study attained.
