Description The Post Details Grade and Salary: Grade 7, £36,924 - £46,485 per annum FTE and working pattern: 1 FTE, 35hrs per week, Monday – Friday. Contract: Fixed Term for 12 months with potential for an extension. There is also potential for part-time working for a minimum of 3 days a week. Interviews are scheduled for Monday 3 rd February The Post TransiT is the UK’s largest research hub dedicated to rapidly decarbonising transport through digital twinning. Led by Heriot-Watt University and the University of Glasgow, this £46 million initiative unites 8 universities and 67 industry partners to address transport decarbonisation. TransiT will create a Federated Transport System of Systems (FTSoS), integrating digital twins across road, rail, air, and maritime transport modes. By leveraging real-time data and advanced modelling, in collaboration with industry and all research partners, TransiT will identify the most cost-effective, energy-efficient pathways to net-zero emissions for policy-makers and industry actors, while ensuring accessibility and resilience for all stakeholders involved. The programme includes a team of 27 research associates across 8 universities who will deliver this ambitious research. The applicant will have a prominent role within the Human Factors work stream. They will be expected to carry out literature reviews, apply specific human factors techniques such as CWA to demonstrator scenarios, interpret and present findings, and contribute to the production of scholarly articles and other research outputs. This is an exciting opportunity both to advance the state of the art in Human Factors, but also to apply it directly to a near term and important challenge. The post-holder will work within the TransiT Hub at Heriot-Watt University, with a multi-disciplinary team of researchers. The role-holder is expected to spend at least 3 days a week working in person on campus at Heriot-Watt University. Description of Duties Apply and extend Human Factors methods to transport scenarios and demonstrators, with a focus on systems-based approaches such as CWA. Deliver Human Factors insights to transport modelling teams and other areas of the wider project. Innovate ways to digitise Human Factors methods and collect data from digital twins and large systems models. Conduct and disseminate original research aligned with the project and in collaboration with the multi-institutional, multi-disciplinary team Work closely with senior decision makers in the industry to enable a programme of work that embeds Human Factors within it. Work as part of the broader TransiT consortium to help organize events and/ or support the work of the team as needed Contribute to outreach and impact engagement activities of the project Demonstrate initiative in making routine decisions in order to manage and achieve project deliverables and deadlines Participate in, and develop, networks and collaborations both internally and externally to the Division/School /University Any other duties, commensurate with the grade of the post Essential Criteria Qualifications PhD in relevant discipline such as Human Factors/Ergonomics, Engineering Psychology, Psychology, Design/User-Centred Design (or close to successful completion) Knowledge, Skills & Experience Experience in the application of systems-based Human Factors methods (such as CWA, Social Network Analysis, and similar) Evidence of a developing publication record Experience or desire to work with those from other disciplines Evidence of excellent administrative and project management skills Evidence of self-motivation and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills Excellent time management skills including the ability to prioritise workload Desirable Criteria Knowledge, Skills & Experience Familiarity/comfort working with software and modelling. Familiarity/experience with Agent-Based Modelling.
