Long Term Futures is seeking a compassionate and patient SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with ASD at a welcoming primary school in Handsworth, Birmingham (B20). This role involves both academic and pastoral support, helping the pupil develop confidence, independence, and social interaction skills. The right candidate will have a nurturing approach and be able to provide a structured and consistent learning environment, ensuring the pupil can engage positively in school life.
Responsibilities:
Provide personalised 1:1 support, ensuring the pupil can access learning in a structured and supportive way.
Implement individual strategies to support emotional regulation, sensory needs, and social interaction.
Offer pastoral support, helping the pupil navigate challenges, build confidence, and develop self-esteem.
Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to adapt learning tasks to suit the pupil's needs.
Use visual aids, structured routines, and positive reinforcement to encourage engagement and independence.
Use positive behaviour management techniques to de-escalate situations and promote self-regulation.Candidate Requirements:
A Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or relevant experience in SEN support).
Prior experience supporting children with ASD and SEMH needs, particularly in a primary school setting.
Strong understanding of sensory processing difficulties, communication barriers, and emotional regulation strategies.
Experience using PECS, Makaton, social stories, or other communication and behavioural strategies (preferred but not essential).
Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and best practices in child protection.About the School:
