Job Scope:
As a Skilled Machinist, you will have diverse abilities to operate manual and CNC machinery with knowledge and experience of a multitude of machining operations; these will include turning, boring, grinding, milling, shaping, and drilling. You would be joining a large team, working across Transmission component machining facilities.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING AS A SKILLED MACHINIST
Main activities of the job role include:
1. Machine setting and operating
2. Jig setting and tool building
3. Machining dimensional tolerances typically of 0.005mm
4. Achieving surface finish tolerances typically of 0.4 μm
5. Using measuring equipment and recording results (examples include Dial Test Indicators)
6. Working within operational job card times
7. Following the job priorities list board
8. Pre-kitting for next operations in-line
9. Proactive handling of care for components and applying corrosion preventative measures
10. Completing daily basic checks (operator's maintenance) of the machines
11. Conveying information to the relevant opposite shift machine operators through the handover process
Key accountabilities include:
1. Possession of an operator's stamp for traceability confirmation of operations completed in adherence to quality systems procedure
2. Working in adherence to controlled documentation and process sketches
3. Working in adherence to secured and proven machine programs
4. Interpretation of inspection results
5. Participation with scrap & rework investigations to determine root cause
6. Working in adherence to company health & safety policies and procedures
Main interfaces include:
1. Liaison with inspectors to qualify 'first off' component of batch
2. Liaison with process engineers (technicians) for technical issues relating to the process sketch, operational procedure, capability of the machine to satisfy operational specification
3. Liaison with supervision for reporting progress for work in-hand or resource requirements such as tooling and consumable requirements
4. Providing support to maintenance engineers where required
5. Sharing skills and experience to guide and mentor apprentices during their course of training
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
1. An engineering apprenticeship and NVQ level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualifications as a minimum
2. Skill base biased towards manual machining
3. Familiarity with legacy and modern Siemens / Fanuc machinery control operating systems (example of legacy is Siemens Sinumerik System 3)
4. Ability to work self-sufficiently and contribute towards team effort
