An opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant to join us within the Department of Medicine for Older People and Stroke at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Broadgreen site). This is an exciting post which allows the successful candidate the opportunity to work as part of the team on Ward 11.
Ward 11 is a 20-bedded ward providing excellent care to our elderly patients. We are a subacute gerontology ward and we specialise in movement disorders. Previous hospital experience is desirable.

Main duties of the job
Under the supervision of a registered nurse, assist the Ward/Department team in providing the highest possible standard of care for patients and their families/carers.
The post holder will undertake a range of tasks and duties as delegated by a registered nurse.
Job responsibilities
* Participate in all aspects of patient care with particular attention to personal hygiene and grooming.
* Provide for patients' toileting needs, ensuring privacy and dignity is maintained.
* Support patients in managing incontinence and promote continence.
* Record patients' fluid intake and output using fluid balance charts.
* Prepare and serve patients' meals, drinks, and snacks; assist/feeding patients as necessary.
* Record patients' dietary intake when indicated in the patients' plan of care.
* Enable patients to maintain/improve their mobility by use of exercise and mobility appliances.
* Assist in the prevention of pressure sore development as directed by the Registered nurse in conjunction with the patients' plan of care.
* Carry out any movement and handling within the safe practice guidelines from your mandatory training and in relation to the patients' manual handling plan.
* Obtain specimens from patients for ward or laboratory testing.
* Remove cannulae, catheters, and nasogastric tubes.
* Undertake the dressing of non-complex wounds (in accordance with identified competencies and in conjunction with the plan of care).
* Perform naso-gastric/PEG feeding once the tube has been passed and checked by a registered professional.
* Prepare and maintain environments for clinical treatments and investigations.
* Undertake venepuncture and canulation.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Demonstrates a willingness & capability to undertake NVQ level 3.
Experience
* Demonstrable experience in a hospital setting working at NVQ level 2.
Knowledge
* Reputation for a high standard of patient care.
Skills
* Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues in the healthcare setting.
* Basic computer skills.
