We are seeking a Nature Conservation and Community Engagement Officer to assist the delivery of the nature conservation element of idverde’s landscape management work in Barrow-in-Furness, and the wider Westmorland and Furness area. Drawing on the expertise and experience of the RSPB, you will identify nature conservation opportunities, engage with and support local community groups to deliver biodiversity enhancements. Working directly with a variety of stakeholders including Government bodies, NGOs, and communities, you will provide ecological expertise and training, habitat enhancements, ecological monitoring, and awareness raising to support idverde's operational delivery.
About the role
The RSPB is the UK’s largest conservation charity, consistently delivering successful conservation, forging powerful partnerships with other organisations, and inspiring others to stand up and give nature the home it deserves. The RSPB Business Conservation Advice Team (BCA) works in partnership with businesses to create habitats, conserve rare species, and provide a better environment in which to live.
As a business partnership adviser for Barrow-in-Furness, you will be working from within the idverde business to deliver best practice conservation management, empower community groups and volunteers to deliver better greenspace management. The role supports idverde's operational delivery team in going beyond the company’s contractual commitments, adding value to the sites managed across Westmorland and Furness.
We are seeking a self-motivated individual to engage fully with the partnership so that they can deliver for nature and the community.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
* Knowledge of practical conservation delivery enabling them to understand, interpret and advise external experts, on how to support our species and habitat conservation. This must be demonstrated through a degree level qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent work experience.
* A proven track record of ecological management for both UK species, and habitats; demonstrated through knowledge of natural history enabling identification of priority species and habitats and up-to-date knowledge of best ecological practices for land management.
* Experience of leading and managing conservation work parties and community engagement activities.
* Great communication skills with confidence to work closely with a wide range of stakeholders, and audiences.
* Ability to rapidly analyse significant quantities of information, produce clear reports and present data clearly and effectively.
* Demonstrate enthusiasm for conservation.
* Ability to prioritise and balance a diverse workload often to tight deadlines.
* Competent user of core MS Office programs.
* A full, manual driving licence that is valid in the UK.
Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:
* Knowledge of urban greenspace management.
* Experience of providing ecological training.
* Developing communication outputs.
* Knowledge of programme or project management.
* Experience in getting funding.
* Previous experience of partnership working.
* Competency certificates (i.e. chainsaw, brush cutter, pesticide).
* Species licences.
* Awareness of the legal and policy frameworks relating to green space management.
Additional Information:
This is a permanent, full-time role for 37.5 hours per week. You will be based at one of idverde’s depots, either Kendall (LA9 5RR) or Barrow (LA13 9BJ) and will be required to travel to different sites.
