When you join Amazon as an Area/ShiftManager, you’ll gain experience leading a large and diverse team tomake sure your area of the business keeps pace with demand. In thishands-on role, you’ll learn about the complexity of operations at aglobal business and what it takes to make everything runseamlessly. While you implement your team’s approach to driveproductivity, you’ll also work closely with your colleagues toaddress challenges, which means no two days will be the same.
Key job responsibilities
- Promotea culture of safety and wellbeing
- Analyse andimplement corrective actions to make sure quality and productivityare at consistently high levels, and business objectives are metacross all shifts
- Support and lead a team and handleadministrative work alongside building and supporting a strong teamculture
- Analyse performance and suggest processimprovements to optimise work and improve customer service
- Collaborate with other managers to standardise shiftprocesses
A day in the life
You’llwork shifts and be based at one of our operational sites. Your mainfocus will be to maintain safety standards within your team andacross your site. You’ll also monitor and maintain processefficiency. Your days will always include prioritising routine teammanagement and daily operational tasks, alongside other tasks likeindividual escalations, process improvement work and wide-scaleoperational contingency planning.
Being a keypart of the operations team involves working with colleagues inother teams and external partners to make sure we stay on track tomeet our customer demands and targets. This will involve analysingdata and performance metrics with leaders in your business area, aswell as discussing the operational pros and cons of technicalimprovements with engineers.

Operations sits at the heart of the Amazon customerexperience. We look after everything from the moment a customerclicks buy, to the moment their item is delivered – from desktop todoorstep. There are different teams within the Amazonoperations model. As a graduate Area/Shift manager you could beplaced within one of these teams:
• The CustomerFulfiilment (CF) team are the first people in the chain that helpscustomers get products at the speed we’re known for. Based inFulfilment Centres, which are at the heart of Amazon’s fast-pacedOperations network. Our centres are sometimes referred to as the‘First Mile’ because it’s where most Amazon packages start theirjourney. The CF help to manage dynamic inventory and facilitatespeedy deliveries round the clock.
• Amazon couldn’tdeliver at pace without the Amazon Transportation Service (ATS)team. Using air, sea and road transport, as well as sortationcentres equipped with the latest technology, you’ll help Amazon’stransport run at maximum efficiency. ATS analsyes data and uses theexpertise of our people to get packages to their destination –quickly, conveniently and sustainably.
• AmazonLogistics, or AMZL, handles ‘last mile’ delivery duties inpartnership with third-party distribution businesses. Utilisingcreative thinking and continuous improvement initiatives to getmillions of physical products into the hands of our customers. Thegoal is to make our customers’ delivery experience as smooth aspossible and roll out global delivery solutions for our newestconcepts, like Amazon Fresh, Prime Now and AmazonRestaurants.
BASICQUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree (or working towards abachelor’s degree)
- Advanced proficiency in written andverbal English
- Relevant experience in performing dataanalysis
PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS
-Experience of communicating with a widerange of stakeholders, including your peers and leadership
-Experience in a logistical working environment
-Experience working with the MS Office suite (Word,Excel, Outlook) in a professional environment
