About Us
When a five-year-old boy was blinded after a regular eye exam failed to spot a retinal detachment, his father made it his life’s work to help eye care professionals by revolutionising retinal imaging. Optos was founded by Douglas Anderson in 1992 with the goal to make a patient-friendly device to quickly capture the entire retina.
The experience of Douglas Anderson is a thread that runs through the company to this day and has resulted in our products being used in nearly 20,000 locations globally. Optomap shows up to 82% (200°) of the retina in a single-capture, offering unrivalled clarity and Optos is proud to be recognised as the leader in this field.
To stay at the forefront of technology and offer the very best solutions to our customers, we are at the beginning of an exciting journey that will expand our product offering, cement our position as the leaders in this field and see us expand our already fantastic team.
Over the last 12 months we have made great progress in developing a new generation of products that will use cutting-edge technologies to drive our mission to transform eye care and are now looking for a Principal Integration and Test Engineer to continue the momentum, bringing your experience and ideas with you.
You and the Role
We would love it if you came from a medical devices, automotive or defence/aerospace background as these industries translate well to what we do and how we work.
You will be no stranger to working cross-functionally and be able to adapt your style depending on who you’re dealing with in the business. We are lucky enough to have the support of our parent company, Nikon, and several stakeholders from Japan are committed to this project so you will have ample opportunity to make connections with the wider global team.
As this role is focusing on our new product range, we need someone who can confidently take on a range of tasks such as planning, coordination, performance evaluation, benchmarking, and documentation activities related to the systems and module level integration of complex ophthalmic imaging systems. Crucially, you will be detail-oriented but also able to take a bird’s eye view of the project and its progress overall.
In this role, you will be leading a small team of 4 Integration and Test Engineers and will be confident in organising and directing their work while also leading by example.
Life at Optos is fast-paced and everyone tends to chip in. We have an experienced team who are comfortable working across various disciplines and teams, so you’ll be a good fit for us if you don’t want to ‘stay in your lane’!
Minimum Requirements
* Degree qualified in Engineering Physics or a related scientific/technical discipline.
* Experience of defining and completing integration of one or more of Electronic / Optical / Mechanical Systems / Sub-systems.
* Test experience / automation of test processes for such systems.
* Strong integration and test professional from medical, automotive or defence/aerospace.
* Leadership experience or strong potential/natural next step.
What We Offer
