As Northern's on-site lead, you'll coordinate with internal and external stakeholders and ensure contractors delivery work as per the approved designs, safely, efficiently, on time and with minimal disruption to the railway and environment. Your focus is on ensuring the delivery of projects to high quality in accordance with the specifications, standards and relevant regulations. You'll run site audits, driving feedback on corrective actions, lessons learned, and pushing for continuous safety and quality improvements but away from here you will also be involved in all design development stages including input into the tender documentations and at project feasibility stages. You will work alongside accomplished professionals, including chartered engineers (civil, mechanical, electrical) and chartered building professionals. You will have the autonomy to manage your sites with the support of your team and will be involved in a large portfolio of projects, such as new station car parks, railway station upgrades, and depot upgrades and enhancement schemes. Your work will be helping to improve our stations, depots and facilities for the benefit of our customers and the communities we serve. We operate a flexible working pattern, but the expectation is that you will spend the majority of your time on site at our TrainCare Centre’s, Offices, or Stations, though travel to these locations won’t cost you anything as your rail pass allows you free rail travel. Key responsibilities: Ensure site activities meet Railway and Industry Standards Check and ensure contractors are delivering works in accordance with the approved designs and construction documentations: Construction Phase Plan (CPP)/ Work Pack Plan (WPP) etc. Conduct regular inspections, issue instructions, and resolve non-conformance. Submit detailed inspection reports within 48 hours for reviews and discussion within the team, report safety issues and progress to Project team. Lead interface with contractors and all stakeholders involved in relation to site works through for example, on-site meetings Work closely with Northern Project Managers, Commercial Managers and QS teams to enable independent monitoring of site progress against contract documents and programmes With support from the Project Team at Northern, manage the interface with key stakeholders such as Network Rail ASPRO and consultants and develop strong and productive relationships ensuring adherence to NR assurance processes so the reviews are undertaken efficiently. Provide technical input during internal or external design meeting, where directed by the Design & Construction Manager. Experience: We’re looking for someone with experience in managing and supervising construction activities, with knowledge in the design environment. Experience within the Rail Industry would be advantageous. Having a blend of technical and leadership skills ensures our projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and in line with design documentations and relevant standards and regulations. You’ll have knowledge of safety management systems, including CSM (Common Safety Method) and CDM (Construction Design and Management) regulations, as well as quality assurance practices. You'll also need Chartered Member of a recognised professional institution is desirable but if working towards we can support you through this. Understanding of environmental issues in construction. Familiar with UK/European Standards, Railway Group & Line Standards, and Building Regulations. Experience in managing interfaces with design houses and delivery partners. Skilled communicator with the influence to guide, adapt, and inspire others.
