Nuclear Inspector
Location: Simonstone
Working Hours:
1. Mon-Thurs: 07.30 a.m. to 16.15 p.m.
2. Fri: 07.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
Pay: £14.30 p/h
The Role
The Nuclear Inspector performs inspections, checks, tests, and sampling procedures of incoming materials, parts, components, and finished items used in the manufacture of products for the nuclear industry including NDE within their qualified scope. The NI will have the primary responsibility to acquire, process, and report inspection data to ensure that the highest standards are applied at all times. Working closely with internal and external customers to support all inspection operations and operational objectives in compliance with company procedures, Nuclear Standards, and Regulations is an essential part of this role.
Main Responsibilities
1. Perform inspections of purchased parts, subassemblies, or finished company products according to well-defined criteria using standard physical, mechanical, and/or electrical measurements.
2. Coordinate inspection activities and manage related project inspection functions.
3. Responsible for enforcing safety and quality requirements.
4. Rework or reject subassemblies or finished products as required.
5. Accurately document the results of the inspections and testing.
6. Maintain all controlled document files and test records in a timely and accurate manner.
7. Coordinate calibration of all test equipment and fixtures.
8. Monitor critical equipment and instrumentation to ensure proper operation and calibration.
9. Participate in the construction and/or revision of procedures for the inspection function.
10. Assist in the writing and updating inspection procedures, protocols, and checklists.
11. Evaluate problems and make initial recommendations for possible corrective action to supervise.
12. Work with project engineers and Quality Assurance to resolve issues.
13. Perform review of history records and other documentation for compliance with established procedures and good documentation practices.
14. Attend meetings as directed by the General Manager/Senior Quality Engineer.
15. Undergo ongoing training and professional development.
16. Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role that may be required for effective and efficient running of the Company.
17. Be conversant with inspection techniques and able to evaluate the latest equipment and techniques utilized in Integrity practices.
The Candidate
1. Time Served Mechanical Engineer.
2. General proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
3. A minimum of two years' quality control experience in receiving inspection.
4. Ability to read engineering drawings.
5. Ability to read engineering quality plans.
6. Ability to use a wide range of inspection equipment – Micrometers, Verniers, etc.
7. Detailed inspection of a wide range of precision components and fabrications in accordance with engineering drawings and written specifications.
8. Good organizational skills, record keeping, and ability to prioritize tasks.
9. Ability to work accurately and to tight deadlines.
10. Ability to work on own initiative to think through problems to find solutions within agreed guidelines.
11. Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
12. Experience in all inspection functions and activities.
13. Experience of operating computing equipment for data processes.
14. Experience of inspection within the nuclear industry is desired.
15. Working knowledge of measurement instruments.
16. Solid background of technical understanding.

19. Supports Innovation.
20. Promoting process improvement.
21. Knowledge of ISO9001 and, although not essential, knowledge of ASME PED would be a clear advantage.
