Working within the Food Testing Microbiology laboratory, the purpose of this role is to complete the relevant stage of testing to the required quality standards and internal methods/procedures. Further, assist in the efficient day-to-day operation of the laboratory.
Please note this is a part-time role, working 15 hours per week - Saturday and Sunday 09:00 - 17:00.
Responsibilities:
1. Carry out registration and processing of samples in line with the quality standard and written methods/procedures.
2. Carry out media preparation in line with the quality standard and written methods/procedures.
3. Carry out reading/confirmation tests in line with the quality standard and written methods/procedures.
4. Carry out media QC, IQC, environmental monitoring in line with the quality standard and written methods/procedures.
5. Adhere to documented procedures for the relevant section of the laboratory, ensuring that all relevant information concerning samples is recorded, that samples are handled correctly, and that all necessary records and quality data are maintained.
6. Provide a high level of internal and external customer care.
7. Ensure that UK health and safety legislation is maintained and help to ensure that the working environment is kept in a clean and tidy manner.
8. Ensure personal protective clothing equipment is worn in accordance with the Health & Safety policy.
9. Work with the team to drive the laboratory forward through continuous improvement.
10. Assist through operating best practice in order to meet the requirements of the UKAS accreditation standard.

12. Read and comply with company rules, procedures, agreements, and any notices displayed by the Company.
Qualifications:
1. Degree or equivalent in science.
2. Understanding of ISO 17025, UKAS, key customer requirements, audit procedures, methods etc.
3. Experience working in a UKAS accredited laboratory.
4. Good organisational and technical problem-solving skills.
5. Capable of working well under pressure.
6. Willing to take on responsibility.
7. Full commitment to meeting customer expectations.
