A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Systems Architect to join the Pavers Head Office IT Team at Northminster Business Park, York. This role is offered as a full-time permanent opportunity in a growing business where you are encouraged to develop your skills in a supportive environment.
As a System Architect at Pavers, you will be tasked with the architecture, design, and planning of systems to align with our business objectives. With a robust technical expertise that embraces emerging technologies, you will have the opportunity to be at the core of a dynamic omnichannel retail enterprise, shaping how technology can enhance both customer experience and employee efficiency. We are introducing new roles to support the business during a transition from legacy solutions to a more-modern technology stack. Pavers is currently undertaking a System Modernisation project set to bring enhancements across all business areas. This is a senior, influential role where you can make a substantial impact by working on complex systems to propel the organisation forward. You will collaborate with technically driven colleagues to integrate MACH principles into our future technical landscape.
You will influence and design all aspects of the technology required to deliver business systems that fulfil organisational needs while ensuring security, stability, and performance. The System Architect role is crucial in defining and adhering to Pavers' technology strategy and standards. You will be responsible for assessing business requirements, utilising design concepts to develop systems that form the foundation for construction and testing.
You will collaborate with colleagues across the business and work jointly with our multi-discipline product teams, which include Delivery Management, Developers, and Quality Assurance Analysts in dedicated or shared roles. This position reports to the Head of IT Change. This role would suit someone with a passion for ensuring systems operate as efficiently as possible and who has the ability and drive to investigate and research, with a problem-solving mindset.

* Architect, design and plan technical solutions using industry best practice.
* Complete initial impact assessments of system change requests.
* Define solution designs and roadmaps that balance functional and non-functional requirements to meet business goals and needs.
* Design system components using appropriate modelling techniques following agreed architectures, design standards, patterns, and methodology.
* Contribute and ensure adherence to Pavers technology strategy.
* Adopts and adapts system design methods, tools, and techniques. Contributes to development of system architecture and design standards.
* Resolve incidents that have not been seen before and initiate change to ensure that issues can be easily dealt with in future.
* Work with data compliance teams to ensure that all technology solutions meet security and regulatory compliance requirements, implementing security measures to protect our data and systems.
* Evaluate new tools and techniques to be able to understand their value and impact.
* Lead group design discussions within area of expertise and be able to present with authority to a variety of audiences.
* Be a lead technical and design authority for the IT Team.
* Keep abreast of emerging technologies and trends and propose innovative solutions that enhance efficiency and competitiveness.
* Support team members and bring on more junior staff through mentoring and coaching.
Here’s what we are looking for to be our Systems Architect
* Minimum of 3 years software development experience developing complex solutions that adhere to MACH principles (Essential)
* Ability to translate multiple information sources and requirements into actionable solutions. (Essential)
* Excellent communication and technical leadership skills, with the ability to be hands on in certain scenarios. (Essential)
* Embraces agile and collaborative ways of working to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. (Essential)
* Strategic thinker with the ability to align technology solutions with business goals. (Essential)
* Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality and performance. (Essential)
* Advanced knowledge of relational databases (SQL Server), integration patterns and Azure (Desirable)
* Certification in Architecture methodologies, for example TOGAF (Desirable)
* Certification in design techniques, for example BCS Practitioner Certificate in Systems Design Techniques (Desirable)
