Fleet Services are responsible for procuring, converting, servicing, repairing, and disposing of all Force vehicles across Dorset, Devon and Cornwall. Our aim is to provide a safe and efficient vehicle Fleet to meet the demands of operational policing. We have 6 sites across the counties, including 2 in Dorset, and 1,700 vehicles. Our workshops are open Monday to Friday so there is no requirement to work weekends although overtime is offered on occasion and paid at an enhanced rate which is optional. The role Reporting to the Workshop Manager you will be responsible for providing timely and efficient scheduled maintenance of Police vehicles and equipment, to ensure that they remain safe, reliable, legally compliant and fit for the purpose. Duties also include completing all documentation relating to vehicle repairs and maintenance. Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety Legislation in addition to procedures as applicable to the vehicle workshops including risk assessments and COSHH regulations is key. There is also an occasional requirement to recover broken down / accident vehicles. The person A high degree of competence in motor vehicle service and repair, preferably to City & Guilds, Vehicle Technician or NVQ level 3 accredited standard, with post apprenticeship experience is essential to the role. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with staff and officers of all levels, along with the ability to work as part of a team is also required.
