The team at FGH has worked hard to develop the stroke service. We have strong links with regional teams as part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Network. Monitoring to support the service is carried out by means of weekly breach meetings, peer mortality reviews, monthly governance meetings, and close adherence to SSNAP criteria on which we are consistently receiving an ‘A’ rating.
Those with sub-specialty training in stroke medicine will be encouraged to apply. Applicants are encouraged to clearly exhibit how they meet our criteria in their applications.
Opportunity to become Clinical Lead for the Stroke is also available for interested candidates with the right experience.
Main duties of the job
Furness General Hospital provides an active acute thrombolysis service (with thrombectomy provided at Royal Preston Hospital) and also makes use of the specialist Telestroke On-Call Service out of hours and at weekends. There is an opportunity to join the general medicine On-Call Rota, Telestroke On-Call rota, or both.
The post supports continued development of the Stroke Service and you will work alongside three existing Stroke Consultants, 1 x locum consultant as well as a wider Care of the Elderly Team and General Medicine colleagues. You will also liaise with Neuroradiology, Neurosurgery, and Vascular Surgery Teams, as well as Nurse Consultant, Stroke Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Matrons, Ward Managers, Nurses, Therapists, and Secretaries, to assist in providing excellent care to our patients at all stages of the patient’s hospital journey. You will provide clinical leadership to a dedicated team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be a member of the Care of the Elderly and Stroke Team and contribute to the provision of a high-quality service, including achievement of the emergency access targets and other relevant quality standards.
The post holder will be expected to provide excellent communication with GPs and members of the multidisciplinary team and to be involved in clinical audit and other clinical governance responsibilities.
Person specification
Qualifications/Skills
* Full registration with the General Medical Council MRCP or equivalent.
* MSc in Geriatric Medicine.
Experience
* Broad exposure to medical diseases and the management of these.
* Comprehensive patient management, ability to train/supervise junior medical staff and medical students.
* Completed a minimum of 12 years’ medical work.
