Ambrose Avenue Group Practice is excited to offer an excellent opportunity for a General Practice Assistant (GPA) to join our team on a full-time basis. The role consists of 37.5 hours per week spread over five days, although part-time applications will also be considered. As a GPA at Ambrose Avenue Group Practice, you will play a vital role in supporting our GPs and enhancing the care experience for our local community. The main responsibilities of this role include: Administrative Support: Sort clinical correspondence, prioritise actions, coordinate referrals, and schedule tests and follow-up appointments. Redirect some correspondence to other professionals, such as clinical pharmacists. Extract key information from letters, accurately code patient data, and update records. Complete basic forms and essential elements of various documents for GP approval, such as insurance forms, mortgage applications, and benefits agency forms. Manage workflow and prioritise key tasks to help free up GP time. Arrange appointments, referrals, tests, and follow-up appointments for patients. Basic Clinical Tasks: Assist with blood pressure checks, urine dipstick testing, ECGs, phlebotomy, and more. Support GPs during immunization sessions or wound care. Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients regarding procedures and care. Coordination and Liaison: Act as an important link between GPs, other clinicians, external agencies, and patients. Ensure seamless patient care by collaborating with hospital teams, social services, and community providers. Patient-Centred Care: Treat every patient with respect, kindness, and confidentiality. Guide patients to the most appropriate services or support within the Primary Care Network (PCN). About the Candidate If you are an organised individual who thrives in a busy work environment where no two days are the same, we would love to hear from you While the following skills and experience are important, we welcome applications from those who can demonstrate strong transferable skills: Essential Skills and Experience: Previous experience in an administrative or healthcare role (experience in a GP surgery or primary care is highly desirable). Knowledge of patient confidentiality, data protection, and safeguarding principles. Excellent communication and organisational skills, with a keen eye for detail. Willingness to undertake or already possess a GP Assistant Certificate (or equivalent). A commitment to teamwork and the ability to work independently. Desirable Skills: Competency in basic clinical tasks such as phlebotomy and ECG. Familiarity with GP software systems (e.g., SystmOne). Understanding of the Quality Outcome Framework (QoF) and Investment and Impact Framework (IIF). Additional Requirements: Full UK driving license (for travel between sites, if needed).
