SEMH Teaching Assistant - Stockport

Teaching Personnel is working with an Ofsted-rated 'Good' secondary school in Stockport to recruit an SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs. This full-time role starts ASAP and runs through to the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent contract depending on performance.
This position is ideal for individuals with a background or interest in mental health, behaviour support, youth work, or psychology. You'll play a key role in helping students develop emotional resilience, re-engage with learning, and build positive relationships in a structured and nurturing school environment.
Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 or small group support for students with SEMH needs
* Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and emotional development
* Support pupils in lessons by promoting focus, managing behaviour, and reinforcing positive routines
* Collaborate with the pastoral and SEN team to support behaviour intervention strategies and individual support plans
* Promote a safe, respectful and inclusive school environment
* Liaise with teachers, parents and external professionals where necessary

* Location: Stockport (secondary school)
* Full-time hours: Monday to Friday during term time
* Weekly pay: £419.25 - £500 via Teaching Personnel
* Start date: ASAP
* Contract: Until July 2025, with opportunity for permanent position
Minimum Requirements:
* Experience supporting young people with SEMH, behavioural needs or additional learning needs (formal or informal)
* A calm, patient and consistent approach
* Strong communication and teamwork skills
* A background in education, psychology, youth work, or social care is highly desirable
* A desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable learners
