Goldsmith / Jeweller / Bench Assistant - 2 d/wk - London
Internationally exhibiting artist jeweller Ute Decker is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented goldsmith/jeweller to join her studio at Cockpit Studios Bloomsbury, London. This part-time, hands-on role involves preparing metals, finishing jewellery to a high standard, supporting studio operations, and assisting during exhibitions. Candidates must have 2–3 years of professional bench experience, proficiency with gold and silver, and excellent craftsmanship. You’ll work closely with Ute, contributing to both intricate small pieces and large-scale projects. Flexible working days (approx. 2 days/week or 6–7 days/month). Competitive hourly rate up to £20/hour, based on skills and efficiency. Not suitable for new graduates.
Responsibilities
1. Prepare metals and finish jewellery to a high standard.
2. Support studio operations and assist during exhibitions.
3. Work closely with the artist on intricate small pieces and large-scale projects.
Minimum Requirements
1. 2–3 years of professional bench experience (role not suitable for new graduates).
2. High level of proficiency with gold, silver, and mixed media.
3. Excellent attention to detail and precision craftsmanship.
4. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to anticipate production issues.
5. Skilled in filing, soldering, texturing, and hand-polishing.
6. Comfortable handling large-scale projects, such as long wire strips.
7. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the artist.
8. Strong organisational and time management skills.
9. Experience with or willingness to learn studio record keeping (Artlogic training provided).
10. Professional, friendly demeanour for client-facing roles and exhibition support.
