Sussex Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship Post - Applications are invited for two Senior Clinical Fellow posts in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.
Post is vacant from 01 October 2025 to 06 October 2026.
This is a clinical and research fellowship that will provide experience in the full range of shoulder and elbow surgery, co-supervised by three consultants, Mr Joideep Phadnis (Lead), Mr Cameron Hatrick and Mr Richard Murphy.
Main duties of the job
The goal of this fellowship is to act as a stepping-stone towards independent high-level consultant practice. Hence, it is paramount that the fellow performs both supervised and independent surgical procedures according to ability and experience which will be developed during the fellowship period. The fellow will also be involved in the assessment and management of complex tertiary level cases referred to the unit from other hospitals.

Following the influence of GIRFT and through recommendations from BESS, we have been designated as one of the national Hubs for Elbow Arthroplasty, which means the fellows will gain experience in elbow arthroplasty to a degree that is not available in many other UK centres.
Person Specification
Experience and Qualifications
* Basic Medical Degree
* Competencies equivalent to completion of ST6 as a minimum or appropriate specialist qualification
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
* Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
* Higher Degree
Clinical Skills and Experience
* Completion of FRCS (Orth) or equivalent
* Evidence of having undertaken own development to improve understanding of equalities issues
* Demonstrable interest in major and complex trauma
* Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)
Organisation and Planning
* Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
* Understanding of NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints
* Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended
Teaching Skills
* Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching
* Recognised teaching qualification
