Geotechnical Engineer
Location: Norwich
Salary: £31,469.60 - £35,505.60 (Dependent on experience)
Hours: 40 Hours per week
Norfolk Partnership Laboratory (NPL) provides an experienced testing and consultancy service to the construction industry, performing a wide range of tests both onsite and at the laboratory, offering specialist advice to our clients.
We are currently recruiting for a Geotechnical Engineer to join the laboratory team based at County Hall in Norwich. This opportunity is available on a permanent basis, working 40 hours per week. The role will involve a combination of site and office-based work centred around the design, implementation, and delivery of Geotechnical and Geo-environmental site investigations to clients as part of the Geotechnical Department.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Planning, conducting, and supervising geo-environmental investigations on site, typically on a bespoke basis.
2. Reviewing anticipated site conditions as required to support the site investigations and development of ground models.
3. Conducting soil and rock logging and sampling both in the field and the laboratory.
4. Entering data into geotechnical software to produce geotechnical logs and other associated outputs.
5. Preparing laboratory test schedules.
6. Analysing site and laboratory data and preparing factual and interpretative reports.
7. Supporting the Senior Engineers in developing proposals and determining costs and schedules for site investigations.
8. Consulting with clients and other laboratory team members to ensure tasks are completed on time and within identified budgets.
9. Preparing documentation as needed to support the investigations and reporting.
10. Ensuring that all work is conducted in accordance with latest Health and Safety regulations and legislation.
Candidate Requirements:
1. Degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, or similar relevant subject or equivalent experience.
2. Current CSCS card or willingness to obtain immediately.
3. Member of an appropriate professional body and willingness to obtain chartered status.
4. Experience in producing factual reports with recommendations.
5. Experience in industry with demonstrable experience working in geotechnics.
6. Able to follow defined guidance thoroughly to ensure compliance with standards.
7. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
8. Ability to work on own initiative, as an individual or as part of a team.
9. Flexible in approach to delivering work to meet clients' needs.
10. May be required to work away, including overnight stays and unsociable hours.
11. Full UK Driving Licence to meet the travel requirements of the role.
