Wye Valley NHS Trust wishes to appoint Clinical Fellows in Emergency and General Surgery, based at the County Hospital, Hereford. Successful applicants will be offered a 12 month post in General & Emergency Surgery, based at the County Hospital Hereford. This is a new post, based at the County Hospital Hereford and developed to support mainly acute and ambulatory general surgical flow in the trust. The successful applicants will have supervised surgical elective and acute surgical experience in General, Gastrointestinal (Upper & Lower GI) and Ambulatory General Surgery. Main duties of the job The post holders will have supervised responsibility for elective and acute surgical inpatients, including preparation for theatre and postoperative care. They are expected to be available to assist in theatre during operation lists and to be available to be trained as appropriate. During on-call/acute shifts, the post holder will be based primarily in the Surgical Same Day Emergency Care unit, where they will gain experience and knowledge of acute ambulatory surgical care, including urology. They will also participate fully in the acute take, including post-take ward round, patient assessment in Emergency department, 'hot' clinics and participation in the NCEPOD theatre sessions. All resident surgical staff have the opportunity to attend Outpatient clinics, and will receive support and supervision from consultant surgeons. The post provides wide experience in the management of common acute and elective general and gastrointestinal conditions. The post holder will assist in operating lists, and will learn to perform ward procedures. Comprehensive induction program will be provided prior to commencement of clinical duties.
