We are hiring for BAE SYSTEMS to fill their requirement for a number of Senior Structural Engineers to facilitate the build of a Specialist structure.
This will be a Defence project with a focus on Marine/Shipbuilding.
The rate is £52.13 PH Inside IR35.
It will be based 4 days a week in Barrow-in-Furness.
Engineers typically require evidence of formal education and qualification and are either of Chartered status (or equivalent), or working towards Chartered status (or equivalent).
· Expertise in structural steel analysis and Design. Experience of Timber and Concrete Design would be beneficial.
· Experience in undertaking Hand Analysis and Design Techniques including Report Writing.
· Understanding of the use of Eurocodes and British Standards. Knowledge and Experience of Lloyds Rules, Naval Design and DNV would be advantageous.
· Experience of reviewing and checking of Design Outputs.
Being able to demonstrate experience in steelwork detailing, including bolted and welded connections as well as geometric tolerances.
· Good understanding of mechanical engineering, structural steelwork, knowledge of lifting handling and LOLER
· Working knowledge of ABAQUS (Software), S-Frame, Foran, MathCAD and excel
· Previous knowledge in a production environment - experience in a marine production environment advantageous
· Member of Professional Institution – IMechE, ICE, IStructE. Incorporated Engineer IEng Status or Working towards Incorporated Status with the aim of progressing to Chartered Engineer CEng Status.
You will be working in conjunction with design to produce equipment and/or support operation in production to produce safety-critical equipment.
· Analysis and Design of complex steel structures utilising Eurocodes, British Standards and BAE standards, to support submarine build
· You will utilise your knowledge of specific regulations & requirements beyond that used within BAE Systems i.e., LOLER, codes of compliance, weld specifications, geometric tolerance
· Competent in computer based analytical techniques including finite element analysis, CAD modelling and engineering schematics (Abaqus, S-Frame)
· Supporting the manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling, and installation processes of Submarine Structures, Modules and Components.
· Supporting a busy environment in utilising your knowledge of the facility and site restrictions applicable to the shipping, handling, alignment and installation of hull units, large equipment, and structures
· Support towards production of concept drawings, layouts, and other technical outputs consistent with contractual requirements to meet target dates and budget demands
