Senior Geotechnical Engineer
35 Hours per week, Work X 3 days / 2 days remote
12-month contract
To be responsible for the engineering development of proposals from clarification of remit to project completion for the Work Delivery Internal Design Team (IDT).
Reporting to the IDT Programme Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Manage the production of the development remits for proposals ensuring accurate description of engineering requirements, scope, possibilities, and operational performance targets.
2. Maintain a robust challenge to sponsoring engineers and managers to monitor and value manage the business and technical remit.
3. Manage all engineering and development activities to ensure schemes are affordable and meet programme requirements safely and environmentally responsibly.
4. Develop suitable engineering options for proposals, considering safety, reliability, operational capacity, maintainability, ease of construction, and environmental issues.
5. Review compliance with standards and maintain designer's competency.
6. Maintain strict change control on scope development; evaluate cost, time, and performance impacts.
7. Participate in the selection of a single option for further development and manage the development of the selected option.
8. Prepare the full engineering data package required for commencement of detailed design and manage independent checking of safety-critical design documentation.
9. Support the Construction Design Management (CDM) Planning Supervisor during GRIP stages 2 to 4.
10. Resource adequately the feasibility stages of project development in both quality and quantity of staff.
11. Manage engineering interfaces of allocated proposals with concurrent work in other disciplines.
12. Act as or liaise with the appropriate Project Engineer for method statements for site works and surveys.
Job Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
Essential:
1. An engineering degree or equivalent industry-recognised training qualification.
2. 5 years' relevant post-graduate experience of producing Civil / Geotechnical designs.
3. A working knowledge of rail engineering.
4. A demonstrable aptitude for option development.
5. Strong evaluation and decision-making skills.
6. Knowledge of CDM and Risk assessment.
7. Full UK Driving Licence and ability to attend sites in the NW&C region.
8. An excellent command of written and spoken English.
9. Excellent report writing skills.
10. Ability to produce and maintain Programmes and Estimates.
11. Client liaison skills.
12. Ability to liaise with internal Contractors.
13. Ability to manage, mentor, and develop Assistant Engineers and Draughtsmen.
14. Good attitude.
15. Live locally to South Manchester.
16. Act as CRE on Schemes.
Desirable:
1. CEng or IEng in a relevant engineering professional institution.
