Due to the introduction of a new local enhanced service (LES), an opportunity has arisen to join our team as an in-house phlebotomist. We are a friendly GP practice based in Penwortham, providing high quality care to around 8,500 patients locally. We require an experienced and professional phlebotomist to provide in-house venepuncture to our patients.
Main duties of the job
Primary responsibilities of the role include:
* Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample
* Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
* Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical IT system
* The correct labelling, packaging and storage of samples
* Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies
* Ensuring samples are sent to the lab in a timely manner
* Maintaining an effective liaison with the NHS laboratory staff
* Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance as necessary for patient related matters
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Phlebotomist may be required to:
* Participate in practice audit
* Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
* Support and participate in shared learning within the practice
* Complete all mandatory training as required by practice policies
Job responsibilities
Job Summary
Working under the direction of the lead nurse and as part of the practice multidisciplinary team, the post holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient population. The practice must ensure that the post holder has access to appropriate clinical supervision and an appropriate named individual in the organisation to provide general advice and support on a day-to-day basis.
20 hours per week over 4 days:
Mon to Thurs 8am to 1pm
This contract will be for an initial 6 month fixed term period (possibility of permanent position longer term).
