Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
We’re transforming how we work within E&M and Property Services to create a more dynamic, efficient, and effective service – and this role is right at the heart of it.
It’s your chance to be part of something bigger – shaping the future of our services, leading from the front, and making a real difference every day.
Sound good? We’re looking for an Operations Team Leader – E&M Maintenance Strategy to join the team.
What you'll be doing
You’ll be at the heart of keeping Scotland’s water flowing - quite literally. Leading the E&M Maintenance Strategy Team, you’ll make sure Scottish Water’s operational sites run smoothly, with a top-notch maintenance plan covering all maintenance activities managed by E&M and Property Services across the country.
Your team of five Maintenance Technicians will look to you to guide strategy, juggle priorities, and keep everything moving. You’ll use data, insight, and experience to create planned interventions that reduce risk, cut cost, and keep us compliant – all while extending the life of critical assets.
You’ll work side-by-side with our E&M Planned Delivery Team Leader and our Alliance Partners to get the job done right – balancing performance, quality and long-term value.
And you won’t stop at ‘good enough’. You’ll lead the charge on continuous improvement, innovation, and best practice – spotting new opportunities and driving service excellence at every turn.
Health, safety, and wellbeing? They’ll be at the heart of everything you do. You’ll champion a proactive safety culture, support investigations, and make sure everyone gets home safely at the end of the day.
What you'll need
You’ve got a solid track record in maintenance strategy and you know how to turn plans into action. Balancing budgets and delivering results? That’s second nature.
You’re confident, decisive, and thrive in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. Challenges? No problem – you’ll tackle them head-on and keep things moving.
You’re also a natural connector. Whether it’s stakeholders, suppliers or site teams, you build strong relationships and keep communication clear – especially when the details get complex. You’re skilled at translating technical info into something everyone can understand.
And as a leader, you know how to bring out the best in your team. Coaching, mentoring, and helping people grow is what you do best – and you create the kind of positive, productive environment where people can do their best work.
This is a digital-first role, so you’re right at home using IT tools like Office 365 to keep everything ticking along smoothly. And since you’ll be travelling across Scotland, a full UK driving licence is essential.
Looking out for you
While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.
This is a full time (35 hours per week) role, Monday to Friday. But you’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.
When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.
For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance.
As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.
The not-so-small print
This role will be a Grade 7. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £41,000. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £51,970.
Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional. We’ll be able to confirm your start date once you pass our Pre-Employment Screening. This is done for us by a third party. We’ll ask for your permission before we initiate the checks.
If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be, we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on Tuesday 22 April 2025.
A few final things worth knowing…
Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out!
Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.
As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.
Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.
We’re here to help. Ask us anything at SWRecruitment@ScottishWater.co.uk
