Job summary Ward Sister/Charge Nurse to a busy Oncology Ward, consisting of 27 inpatient beds and 4 acute oncology assessment trolleys treating complex patients at differing stages of their cancer journey. We treat patients in both curative and palliative stages of Cancer, deliver treatments such as Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy, and manage complex symptoms resulting from treatments or disease. It is a busy ward with at least 4 elective or emergency admissions and discharges daily. You will be a shift/team leader, providing clinical leadership and management support, developing and evaluating best practice within the department. The post-holder will be required to deputise for the department manager and uphold the values of the Trust, being a role model. Candidates will need to have substantial post registration experience and will need to demonstrate competency in the administration and management of chemotherapy or willing to undertake the training. Main duties of the job The successful applicant will be integral to the ward in safe care delivery and implementing change and providing clinical support to staff members, participating in supervision, mentorship and completing appraisals. They will be required to manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring varying levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need.
