Job Title: Business Development Manager – Freight Forwarding
Location: UK – Remote/Hybrid
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 + £5,500 Car Allowance + Bonus
About the Client:
Our client, a leading company in the freight forwarding industry, is seeking an experienced and driven Business Development Manager to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to represent a growing organisation specialising in Air, Sea, and Road freight, and to play a pivotal role in driving business growth while building long-term customer relationships.
Main Purpose of the Role:
To identify, secure, and develop new business opportunities across a national coverage while nurturing relationships with existing clients. The successful candidate will contribute to the organisation’s overall business objectives through strategic business development and relationship management.
Key Responsibilities:
* Generate new business by meeting and exceeding financial targets.
* Devise and sell tailored forwarding solutions to prospective and existing customers.
* Act as the first point of contact for customer enquiries, ensuring a professional and timely response.
* Conduct regular market research and gather intelligence to identify opportunities for growth, including new routes, services, and customer prospects.
* Register for and respond to ITTs/RFQs and other tender opportunities.
* Represent the company at networking events, deliver presentations, and progress leads to successful business acquisition.
* Analyse customer data to prepare and submit comprehensive tender and proposal documents.
* Identify potential partnerships that align with securing profitable business.
* Manage the process from enquiry through to contract agreement and oversee the transition into operational implementation.
* Develop and maintain strong working relationships with customers to foster loyalty and ongoing business growth.
* Regularly review and enhance the business development process, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.
* Contribute to the development and execution of effective marketing strategies to boost brand visibility and generate leads.
* Provide clear and accurate business development reports to the Sales Director.
* Communicate business development activities to internal teams to ensure alignment and progress awareness.
Requirements:
* Proven track record in freight forwarding sales across Air, Sea, and Road freight.
* Demonstrated ability to consistently meet and exceed financial and operational sales targets.
* Hunter mentality – results-oriented, self-motivated, and relentless in pursuing opportunities.
* Strong negotiation skills and the ability to close high-value deals.
* Comprehensive understanding of freight forwarding processes, services, and market trends.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients.
* Experience in managing tender processes, including preparing RFQ/ITT documentation.
* Knowledge of CRM systems and proficiency in data analysis to support sales strategies.
* Ability to identify and seize growth opportunities within competitive markets.
Benefits:
* Base Salary: £50,000 - £60,000
* Car Allowance: £5,500
* Bonus Scheme: To be discussed at the interview stage
* Death in Service Benefit: 3x annual salary
