The role of the Registered Nurse is to support the efficient running of the Outpatients Department to enable patients to receive care closer to home from visiting Specialists including Nurses, Allied Health Professionals and other Consultants/Registrars in their field of speciality. Staff will help to promote the health and well-being of the Service users, signposting service users to additional services and providers for health and social care.
Main duties of the job
1. Deliver safe and effective patient-centred care to our service users, their families, and carers.
2. Ensure the clinical care requirements of patients are communicated effectively.
3. Lead the team in the overall running of the department in the absence of a Senior Sister on duty, ensuring safe staffing levels and informing senior staff/managers of any problems while providing solutions.
4. Participate in clinics, acting as a chaperone when required.
5. Undertake assessments and make appropriate onward referrals.
6. Be competent in the administration of medications as prescribed by Consultants.
7. Ensure patient records are kept up to date, accurate, and in line with the Trust's Record Keeping Policy.
8. Undertake Link Worker training and act as a Link Worker for a specific role (e.g., Basic Life Support, Infection Control, Fire, etc.) and support the HCAs training, including attending meetings pertaining to their specialty on behalf of their Team and disseminating information back via Team meetings.
9. Undertake clinical audits to identify and improve patient safety and care.
10. Conduct patient satisfaction surveys and respond appropriately.

Job responsibilities
1. Support the Senior Sister/Sister in the appraisal of Newly Qualified Staff and Non-Qualified Staff.
2. Develop knowledge and expertise on People Management (Human Resources) policies to support personal development.
3. Understand budgetary constraints and controls.
4. Ensure the safe use, inspection, maintenance, and security of all goods and equipment, maintaining appropriate stock levels at all times.
5. Review and appraise processes and policies to allow for continuous improvement within the Trust that ensures delivery of best practice.
6. Carry out individual risk assessments and contribute to the management of risks in line with Trust Policy.
7. Implement and conform to Trust and Departmental Infection Control policies and procedures.
8. Take responsibility for personal development and ensure knowledge and skills are up to date using clinical audit to improve standards of patient care and reflective practice in preparation for ongoing re-validation.
9. Work in other departments or hospitals to ensure levels of safe staffing are maintained across the Trust.
10. Ensure the privacy, dignity, and safety of people are maintained at all times.
11. Demonstrate the ability to recognise changing priorities, seeking advice and guidance from the Registered Nurse or other registered care professionals as appropriate.
12. Report back and share information with the registered nurses on the condition, behaviour, activity, and responses of people.
13. Recognise issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults and report any problems or raise concerns to the appropriate registered care professionals.
14. Assist in the assessment of and contribute to the management of risk across several areas within the environment where care is being delivered.
15. Assist in the implementation of appropriate actions to meet the specific physical, emotional, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs of individuals.
