Requirements:
* Valid and active California Psychology license.
* Minimum of twelve (12) continuous months of experience within the last three (3) years performing services similar in scope to those defined herein.
Responsibilities:
* Provide psychological services to mentally ill inmates/wards under the guidance of the Senior Psychologist, Supervisor, and/or the Chief of Mental Health.
* Maintain order and supervise patient-inmates/youths' conduct, ensuring safety of individuals and property.
* Serve as the clinician-of-the-day and be available for on-call duties during scheduled work days for patient emergencies.
* Work effectively and cooperatively with staff of all classifications to enhance professional relationships.
* Conduct initial mental health evaluations, including criminal, psychological, and substance abuse case history.
* Perform clinically sound suicide risk evaluations and document findings properly.
* Meet with mentally ill inmates/wards for crisis intervention and psychotherapy.
* Identify signs and symptoms of psychiatric disorders to assess, diagnose, and manage symptoms.
* Apply psychological assessments in the selection, administration, scoring, and interpretation of tests.
* Write clinical reports regarding diagnoses, prognoses, and treatment plans.
* Consult on complex cases with supervisors and treatment team members.
* Document all care provided to inmates, including face-to-face contacts and IDTT meetings.
* Monitor inmate progress using Subjective Assessment Plan Evaluation (SOAPE) formatted progress notes.
* Apply community standards of practice for psychological treatment modalities.
* Perform mental status exams (MSE) in interviews.
* Examine prior mental health records and other documents to assist in diagnosis formulation.
* Establish collaborative ties with community programs and agencies.
* Conduct mental health education and develop resources for mentally ill and sex offender inmates/wards.
* Assist patient-inmates/youths in applying for entitlement benefits and community services.
* Participate in IDTT meetings and compile data from audits related to mental health program requirements.
* Provide information to support staff for data entry.
* Provide written reports and consult with the Board of Prison Hearing and other staff.
* Provide information to relatives/caregivers concerning patients after receiving signed release of information.
* Develop therapeutic relationships with patient-inmates/youths and families to enhance treatment delivery.
* Represent the department at formal and informal settings regarding mental health matters.
* Maintain order and supervise the conduct of individuals in the correctional facility.
* Assist in implementing new programs for treatment and rehabilitation of patient-inmates/youths.
* Comprehend and adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and policies regarding patient confidentiality.
* Adhere to mandated reporting requirements regarding California Psychologists.
