Our client:
Our client is a well-backed hydrogen-tech start-up, developing innovative solutions for green hydrogen production. They have just gone through a significant funding round and are looking to expand their team, including the need for a Pilot Plant Manager.
The opportunity:
As the Pilot Plant Manager of the company's first out-of-lab pilot demonstrator plant, you’ll be managing the modification and testing of the pilot plant to achieve the TRL6 (Technology Readiness Level 6) milestone and paving the way to commercial deployment.
What you’ll do:
Oversight of Teesside 1 operations, modifications and maintenance activities
● Delivering modifications projects to bring the plant from TRL5 to TRL6.
● Develop and manage project schedules
● Have input to the detailed design with respect to installation and usage in the facility.
● Take an active role in the commissioning process
Interfacing with site stakeholders and the wider team
● Input into early stage internal modification projects to ensure constructability, operability and project plans are realistic
● Act as the primary point of contact for the site facilities team, coordinating to ensure compliance with site procedures and processes, and managing requests for support from other facility-related services.
● Troubleshoot and resolve problems
● Support customer and investor visits, ensuring the plant and its outputs are well represented to external stakeholders
Managing projects, suppliers and trusted partners
● Manage all interfaces with 3rd party contractors, including negotiating contract agreements, overseeing contractor performance, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards
● Be responsible for taking modifications from high level designs through to detailed design, procurement of components, build and commissioning, including sub-contracting project phases where required.
● Identify and assess project risks, including those related to contractor performance, and develop mitigation strategies
About you
Ideally, you will:
● Have a deep understanding of the processes, equipment, and materials involved in the pilot plant operations, including knowledge of engineering principles and process control.
● Be autonomous and communicative, delivering outcomes aligned with business that is majority not co-located.
● Enjoy identifying and solving problems that arise during pilot plant operations, analysing data, troubleshooting equipment issues, and making sound decisions under pressure.
● Communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including team members, senior management, and external partners.
● Have the ability to plan, execute, and monitor pilot plant projects.

● Ability to clearly communicate technical requirements and expectations to 3rd party contractors
● Excellent communication and negotiation skills to effectively manage relationships with external contractors and internal stakeholders.
● Strong coordination and collaboration skills to ensure seamless integration of contractor services with pilot plant operation
● Ability to proactively identify and resolve potential issues related to contractor performance or facility-related challenge
● Proactive approach and hands-on attitude to problem solving throughout the project lifecycle
