Customer Utility Technician
Working hours - 37 hours per week (flexible working arrangements will be considered)
Permanent
Salary: £26,897 - £33,621 (depending on experience)
Location: Hanningfield, Chelmsford
About the role
We've an amazing opportunity to come and join our team of Customer Utility Technicians who are responsible for identifying and locating leaks on our water mains and service pipes using advanced detection techniques, including mobile technology.
As a Customer Utility Technician, your role is crucial to maintaining our customers' water supply. You'll be responsible for conducting a range of leak detection activities to resolve issues promptly while providing exceptional service to our customers, explaining findings and solutions.
We will provide you with training and support to develop in this role. You will also receive a fully equipped van to respond quickly when our analysts identify potential leakage issues across our region. You will be required to work productively and accurately against set targets. At times, you will provide face-to-face leakage assistance to our customers, managing their expectations in line with our policies, procedures, and operational requirements.
This role is both reactive and proactive. You'll assist with planned leakage surveys while responding to urgent leak detection needs. As you develop your skills daily, you'll use techniques like sounding, correlating, and noise logging to accurately identify hidden water leaks in our network. Your expertise will play a key role in maintaining our water supply to ensure minimal disruption for our customers.
We prioritize keeping water flowing and minimizing waste, so our leakage technicians are active in all weather conditions and locations, from city centers to rural locations. Water is a 24/7 business, which means our team occasionally works evenings and weekends to ensure timely repairs and maintain customer satisfaction.
Please note, this role comes with a van and fuel card for business use only, and the van will be kept at your home location when not in use.
About you
If you have proven experience in delivering outstanding customer service and strong problem-solving skills, then we want to hear from you.
Once trained, you will be expected to work independently, walking long distances daily, which requires a high level of self-motivation. Our Water Operations Leakage team includes colleagues who have not previously worked in the water industry. A positive attitude and adaptable skill set are essential for this role.
We are seeking hard-working, flexible, and technically minded individuals who would like a role that offers variety and the opportunity to work outdoors.
You must be competent with the use of mobile technology, including smartphones/tablets, and demonstrate a passion for engaging with customers.
You will need a full UK manual driving licence to enable you to complete this role.
