Specialty Doctor in an Older Persons Inpatient Service

An exciting opportunity to work as a Specialty Doctor. The post is a split post between Cleadon (functional old age ward) and Roker (organic old age ward) at Monwearmouth hospital.
You will be part of a well-established MDT which includes Nurses, Consultant Psychiatrists, Nurse Consultants, Psychologists, SALT Practitioners, OT as well as a visiting GP. The trust offers support to SAS doctors including SAS tutor, SAS development days as well as support for developmental opportunities (e.g. obtaining specialist registration or approved clinician status through portfolio route, research, medical education, management opportunities for interested SAS doctors).

Main duties of the job
You will be providing input into assessment and treatment of the patients on the unit under the supervision of the consultant psychiatrist. You will be an integral part of the ward leadership team and attend MDT meetings. You will provide valuable input into developing assessment and treatment plans for the patients.

Job responsibilities
* Assessment (medical and psychiatric), treatment and management of patients referred to the service. The doctors work will be supervised by the consultant psychiatrist involved in the service.
* Attending and contributing to MDT meetings including 72 hours meeting, formulation meetings, professionals meetings and discharge meetings.
* Multidisciplinary team working will be essential; collaborating with GPs, Community Treatment Team and primary care clinicians regarding the physical health care of patients admitted to the unit.
* To work collaboratively with other Senior Clinical Colleagues in the inpatient care team.
* To take a lead role with the consultant psychiatrist, ward Manager and other colleagues in service improvements and development.
* To contribute to the ongoing training and development programme within the team.
* Administration responsibilities include appropriate documentation as required within the Trust systems.
* Prepare reports for mental health review tribunals and managers hearings.

Person Specification
Qualification/Training
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* Full Registration with the GMC (or eligible to become registered before appointment) with a licence to practice
* MRCPsych or equivalent
* Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field
* Approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act 1983
Experience
* Minimum of 4 years full-time postgraduate training including 2 years work experience in psychiatry
* Experience of multidisciplinary team working
* Wide clinical experience in psychiatry in different clinical settings
* Experience in multi-agency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies
* Experience in service management or development
* Experience of clinical audit
Skills
* High level of clinical skills
* Able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Proven competence in diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders
* Established record of clinical leadership
* Established ability as a clinical teacher
* Training in specific and relevant treatment skills e.g. a brief form of psychological therapy

Salary: £59,175 to £95,400 a year pro rata for part-time.
