Sheffield Flourish (formally Recovery Enterprises)
Job Description
The Carer Peer Support Worker will be working with individuals who are carers for people who are receiving crisis and urgent mental health services or who have been admitted onto the inpatient wards. Day to day tasks include carer engagement, providing support on a 1:1 basis around practical issues and signposting for carers. It is important that we can provide support at times of the day that are convenient to the carer, therefore this role will potentially involve occasional evening and weekend working. Please note the funding is for a 12-month period and therefore this is a fixed-term role.
We are particularly looking for candidates with lived experience as a carer for someone with mental illness and/or experience of supporting people with a mental illness. Peer support workers use their experiences to offer empathy and understanding to others, inspiring hope and belief. In this role, a peer carer can offer peer support alongside practical assistance to help other carers feel in control of their lives. Within a relationship of mutuality and information sharing, they will promote choice, self-determination and connection to community support.
The Carer Peer Support Worker will work closely with Sheffield Flourish’s Volunteer and Community Engagement Coordinator, as well as colleagues from Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust’s (SHSC) Engagement Team, the Pakistani Muslim Centre (PMC) and SACMHA Health & Social Care, to enhance and complement support already being delivered on the inpatient wards.
We also require candidates to have an understanding of and commitment to our values (see above). Further role requirements are outlined in the person specification.
