The Substation Delivery Manager is responsible for leading the successful execution of high-voltage substation projects, ensuring they are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with required standards. This role involves managing multidisciplinary teams, coordinating with clients and stakeholders, and upholding safety and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have extensive project management experience in the power or utilities sector, coupled with technical expertise in substation design, construction, and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
Project Oversight
* Lead and manage the end-to-end delivery of substation projects, from inception to completion
* Ensure adherence to contractual requirements, including timelines, budgets, and quality standards
* Oversee all project phases, including design, procurement, construction, and commissioning
* Review and approve technical designs, drawings, and specifications
* Provide expert guidance on complex engineering challenges during project execution
* Ensure designs align with client requirements and operational needs
Team Leadership
* Supervise and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, contractors, and vendors
* Offer leadership, guidance, and performance feedback to team members
* Foster a culture of safety, quality, and accountability
* Encourage knowledge-sharing and skills development within the team
Stakeholder and Client Management
* Serve as the primary liaison with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and utility companies
* Ensure alignment on project goals, expectations, and deliverables
* Maintain clear and consistent communication on project progress and milestones
* Address client concerns promptly and provide regular project updates
Budget and Resource Management
* Assist in preparing project budgets and financial forecasts
* Optimize resource allocation to maximize project efficiency
* Oversee procurement processes and manage vendor contracts
* Support procurement teams in contract negotiations
* Establish and maintain strong vendor relationships
Risk Management
* Identify and assess potential project risks, including technical, financial, and operational challenges
* Develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans
* Implement proactive measures to improve project workflows and efficiency
Performance Monitoring
* Track project milestones and key performance indicators (KPIs)
* Prepare and present detailed progress reports to senior management
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project delivery processes
Quality Assurance and Compliance
* Implement rigorous quality control processes to ensure design and execution meet high standards
* Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements
* Conduct audits and reviews to verify adherence to company and industry policies
* Address and resolve design or construction defects in a timely manner
Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a related field
* Minimum of 5 years of experience managing power infrastructure projects, preferably substation delivery
* Proven track record of successfully delivering high-voltage substation projects within scope, budget, and schedule
* In-depth understanding of substation systems, including design, construction, and commissioning
* Familiarity with power transmission and distribution industry standards
* Proficiency in project management tools such as MS Project or Primavera
* Strong leadership and team management capabilities
* Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills
* Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
* Strategic thinking and resource planning expertise
