An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Specialist Respiratory Physiologist to join the Lung Function team based at UHL and UHW. This is a permanent full-time position.
The successful candidate will play a large part in the Sleep Apnoea service, including performing and analysing the respiratory sleep studies, CPAP initiation, and follow-ups. They will also need to have experience in performing lung function tests, ear lobe blood gases, Challenge tests, and assisting CPET. They will also be largely involved in the training of the BSc. Healthcare Science (Respiratory and Sleep) students and in-house Trainee Clinical Scientists.
Additionally, the successful applicant will need to have sufficient experience working as a band 5 Respiratory Physiologist role or can demonstrate competency within all aspects of the band 6 job description and person specification and is ready for progression to a band 6.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
1. To perform all basic and specialist Lung Function tests independently - including full lung function via a variety of lung volume methods, reversibility, challenge testing, field exercise testing.
2. To assist in Cardiopulmonary exercise tests for both lead physiologists and anaesthetists across UHL and UHW sites.
3. To perform Sleep Disordered Breathing tests and treatment independently, with a focus particularly on Obstructive Sleep Apnoea.
4. To take an active role in the training of junior staff, students, nurses, and medical students.
5. To help support the clerical administration and management of the department.
6. To act as a senior member of the team in absence of the band 7/8.
7. To drive forwards new ideas and initiatives.

Essential
* Degree in Respiratory Clinical Physiology or recognised previous equivalent with qualifications and experience accepted by RCCP.
* On RCCP Register or equivalent (or working towards).
* ARTP Full Certificate in Spirometry Course (or working towards).
* Evidence of accredited courses in specialist areas and continuous professional development.
Desirable
* ARTP assessment part 1 and 2.

* An underpinned experience and knowledge of respiratory physiology and diagnostics.
* Competent at independently performing full lung function testing and writing technical comments.
