Role Specification
The role is based in Normanton. The buyer will be required to travel to other group locations for internal and external meetings as appropriate. This role will involve some European and international travel.
Role Objective
The buyer will be responsible for sourcing and managing products and suppliers for own label product and for any bids and tenders. The role will deliver continuous successful commercial negotiations that improve the overall performance of the business. The role will support the wider product team by sourcing product and identify new suppliers on an international basis, thus increasing the network of suppliers and ensuring we are purchasing product at the optimum price and supply chain.
Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:
* Engaging with suppliers and actively review product pricing and the marketplace.
* Identification & development of long-term suppliers for existing and new products in accordance with the requirements of the business, utilising UK, European and International suppliers
* Negotiate with suppliers to achieve the best price, commercial terms and delivery of all products required.
* Source products to customer’s and the business specifications at the right price to allow the business to launch products, win new business, and maintain and increase margins.
* Ensuring all pricing files and contracts are timely actioned and updated
* Manage the full process of items being purchased to ensure all data sets are completed correctly.
* Ensuring that all new products are set up correctly and are communicated.
* To support product managers to launch new own label products and ensure a close relationship with them including on contract requirements, pricing, MOQ and lead-times through to launch.
* Ensuring you are working closely with product managers and suppliers to ensure new volumes are captured to obtain improved prices from suppliers.
* Prioritise workload ensuring all products are tendered on a timely basis and the supply base is investigated fully. Multiple tenders will be worked on simultaneously.
* Build strong relationships and rapport with key personnel, interfacing at different levels with key supplier contacts. Ensure regular communication on progress and outcomes.
* Travel to supplier sites and trade events, and the ability to assess supplier’s capability to fulfil their contractual requirements. This would involve European and international travel.
Person Specification
* Time management is critical in this job role, so the ability to focus and drive to meet goals, deadlines and manage their workload is key.
* Developed communication skills and a high level of professionalism to work with senior personnel and suppliers.
* Ability to negotiate product pricing and supply chain, for UK, European and International suppliers.
* Ability to outline simple supply contracts and ensure all the companies Terms and Conditions are signed.
* Ability to respond to periods of high workload and project completion deadlines
* Ability to manage critical business data in a confidential manner.
Other Qualifications or Experience
* Strong negotiating skills
* Experience sourcing products from manufacturers (local and overseas).
* Experience developing strong supplier relationships.
* Ability to project plan the introduction of new products and moving products between suppliers.
* Understanding of the full cost of sourcing decisions (product, freight, duty, stock holding, handling, returns) and implications of commercial terms
* Strong numeracy skills, the ability to manipulate and present data.
* Ability to successfully deliver multiple projects/ simultaneously.
* As strong commercial acumen
* Excellent Excel and Word skills.
* Project management.
* Be able to drive, hold a full UK license
Desirable Qualifications or Experience
* Knowledge of the business supplies and services industry
* CIPS qualifications
