This is an external vacancy and is not employment with East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
Looking for a support worker to help an 11-year-old to access groups and activities in the community for 4 hours per week. The ideal candidate would help him gain confidence and enable him to process the environment while keeping him safe.
He is funny, cheeky, and kind. He really enjoys physical activities, such as going to gravity or rock up. He likes going for walks and has started running, which he enjoys and is improving already!
At home, he likes to play on his games console or use the VR. He also has reptiles at home that he enjoys looking after, and they are especially important to him.
He likes swimming and taking part in any sensory activities at groups. He is a film fan, so a trip to the cinema would be a real treat and something he enjoys doing. He also likes to eat out.
He does not like to be around too many people or busy places, and loud noises can make him angry and upset. He would need support in this environment and with processing his emotions. He can find processing and keeping regulated more difficult when he is tired.
He would benefit from someone who has patience and is willing to spend time getting to know and understand him. The ideal candidate needs to be firm but fair with rules. He likes routine and would need support from someone who will help him use his calming down techniques, which he has learned and is practicing to use when needed.
He would like to have support to try out new activities and attend groups, as well as participate in activities he already enjoys.
Children and Young People, Specialist Services Direct Payments is an in-house service provided by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council to support families of Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to fulfill their potential and aspirations.
While caring experience is always useful, you don’t necessarily need to have worked in care to be a great Direct Payment Worker; the right attitude and a person-centred approach are more important.
