Urgently Required – HGV Charge Hand/Vehicle Technician –Depot Billingborough – New Exciting Opportunity
We are looking to recruit an HGV Charge Hand - Technician to repair, maintain and service our fleet of heavy goods vehicles, at our the Billingborough Depot. This will involve planned and unplanned maintenance and repair and must continuously provide roadworthy vehicles for essential road safety work.
Hours of Work will be Monday - Thursday 07:00 - 16:00 and Friday 07:00-13:30 (39 Hours). This will include being on a rota system to provide breakdown cover 24/7.
The Salary will be £35,659.00 OTE plus Overtime. This is made up of a Standby rota (one week in three weeks from October to April on Gritter vehicles and one week in five from May to September on PSV vehicles). Pay increase pending.
Overtime is paid at x1.5 (time and a half) during evenings and Saturday. Overtime is paid at x2 (double time) on Sunday. A van for transportation from home to site is also included.
The Charge Hand aspect of the role will include:
* Ability to help motivate a team.
* Excel and Word skills
* Follow the Maintenance Schedule to ensure all vehicles are maintained in a timely fashion
* Input and close off all defects on CheckedSafe
* Ordering parts for repairs
* Organise logistics and vehicle movements
* Preparing the completed job packs at the end of each job
* Raising and closing job cards on MAM
* Work co-operatively with the Gritter Workshop Supervisor to ensure the fleet is safe and roadworthy
* Work independently to manage the throughput of the Billingborough Workshop.
Full training will be provided
The HGV Technician aspect of the role will include:
* Repair and maintain all TransportConnect vehicles with a focus on HGV vehicles based at the Billingborough Depot
* Carry out repairs at other sites where necessary. A suitable workshop van will be provided.
* Explore alternative solutions and recommend courses of action in consultation with your line manager and other workshop staff through the use of diagnostic equipment, in order to resolve problems in a timely and cost-effective manner.
* Maintain all workshop equipment to the highest standards, ensuring that worn or damaged parts and equipment are reported to line management and replaced or repaired as soon as possible, in order to facilitate the effective running and use of the Workshops.
* Undertake routine Health and Safety checks, taking action where appropriate to identify and rectify any potential or existing breaches, in order to ensure the working environment fully complies with companies Health and Safety policy and COSHH regulations.
Necessary experience:
* The post holder should ideally hold a full and clean C class driving licence.
* The post holder must have a good knowledge and understanding of the repair and maintenance of HGV and other vehicles underpinned by a recognised qualification in vehicle repair and maintenance, equivalent to NVQ level 3. Or, a proven track record in the motor repair industry.
* The post holder must have a practical knowledge and understanding of health and safety regulations, including the identification and assessment of risks presented within the workshop environment.
Expected qualifications & experience.
* Completion of an Advanced Level Apprenticeship in HGV Vehicle Repair or equivalent BTEC
* City & Guilds qualifications or NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
* Proven track record in the repair and maintenance of HGV vehicles.
Desirable
The post holder must be computer literate and have knowledge of a range of computer systems, including Microsoft Office applications. Specialist vehicle equipment training will be provided where necessary.
