Job Purpose
To establish a robust framework for New Product Introduction and ensure that all departments work within the framework which is an integral part of the ERA Tollgate process. The role will manage NPI activities and will make use of appropriate tools and techniques.
SCOPE
The role covers new ERA group branded products or modifications to existing ones. The products will be ERA Hardware and ERA Smartware sourced as ERA designed or OEM designed products. The role will cover products sourced and manufactured globally as well and internally manufactured.
MAIN TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
* Working closely with Design & Development teams as well as Product Management the role will plan the steps required to ensure that all new products or significant variants of the same meet the required specifications and manufacturing processes are robust and ensure that the product specification is maintained.
* The role will define the framework and utilise all appropriate and relevant APQP tools and techniques at the right time during the product introduction process to ensure the products are right first time when they have been manufactured at source.
* The NPI Engineer will ensure that the activities are carried out in a timely manner in accordance with planned activities/TG process and will liaise with all relevant departments, suppliers, customers when required.
* All processes/documentation/test reports and test results are reviewed in a timely manner and any issues of concern are flagged to the business or escalated to ensure resolution is achieved or a course of action is agreed.
* Responsible for ensuring that the results of validation tests meet the customer requirements prior to full manufacture.
* All risks to the project or business must be highlighted, tracked and the business advised in a timely manner.
* Working with Purchasing to ensure that a robust system of supplier and product approval is established in each country where product is sourced outside of TSA's scope of activity. Such a QA framework is to include an ongoing system of product QC compliance/product release.
* Liaison with ERA supply chain, suppliers and when relevant TSA to ensure that NPI activities are completed in accordance with planned intent.
* Development & ownership of effective and robust processes & standard operating procedures and ensuring harmonisation within the ERA IMS.
* Working with the ERA Product Quality Manager conduct internal & external audits, identifying opportunities for improvements & non-conformances, and agreeing effective corrective action plans.
* Ensure an effective handover to the Product Quality team making all required documentation available for reference to the Quality team.
Key Skills
* Knowledge of APQP & PPAP processes, tools & techniques and proven experience of applying and working with the same.
* Proven experience of manufacturing processes associated with hardware products similar or equivalent to ERA products.
* Ability to read engineering drawings and a knowledge of GD&T.
* IT numerate with a good understanding of Microsoft Office tools.
* An ambitious degree qualified Engineer with a logical systematic mind.
* Proven problem-solving individual with a knowledge of using recognised tools and techniques.
* Being able to manage time effectively ensuring that business priorities are identified and actioned.
