A temporary opportunity is available for a Control Support Assistant based at Cardiff for a period of up to 14 months, subject to review.
The teams in Control are focused on ensuring the network is secure, contingencies are in place and lost supplies are restored as quickly as possible, minimising customer minutes lost and customer interruptions.
Based within our two Operational Centres, our Control Centres are the heartbeat of our operations, monitoring the system in real time, minimising risk of danger and managing security and faults. Control Centre teams also liaise with the National Grid and the Government to manage national network demand and monitor the potential for incidents or emergencies.
Depending on experience, you may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.
Main Responsibilities
Working on a 2-shift Rota system (mornings, afternoons; including weekend & bank holiday morning working), you will report directly to the Control Team Manager and your responsibilities will include:
* Power On Advantage / CROWN data quality monitoring and reporting
* Power On Advantage network referencing of sub-stations and normal network running arrangements
* Checking HV pre-arranged TCS incident FREP’s
* Booking on/off Tree Cutters working in the vicinity of the HV network
* Monitor and action emails for DG customers
* Other DER considerations
* Safety Document monitoring and reporting
* Collate, issue and communicate management information and reports
* Other duties appropriate to the grade
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an effective team player, be able to work unsupervised and have a thorough knowledge of Power On Advantage (ADMS), CROWN and the Microsoft Office tools. You must have the ability to communicate effectively with all of our internal customers and be able to maintain excellent standards of work.
As the post you are applying for attracts a National Security Vetting clearance there are further eligibility requirements, information can be found on the gov.uk website. To meet national security vetting requirements you will normally need to have been resident in the UK for at least 5 years for Security Clearance (SC) prior to the date of application. There are exceptions to this however and examples of these include:
* You have been serving overseas with HM Forces or in some other official capacity as a representative of HM Government.
