The Computer Science Research Centre at RCA is seeking a highly skilled Research Software Engineer (0.5 FTE) to join the Innovate UK funded project, GENERA Smart Engine: AI-driven 3D Outfit Design. This project focuses on advancing research and feasibility in customizable Generative AI 2D and 3D models.
About GENERA LABS
GENERA LABS is an award-winning software startup revolutionizing the 3D character design process, providing state-of-the-art tools for rapid character clothing creation at scale. The startup’s flagship service, GENERA STUDIO, is a web-based engine that enables the construction and export of optimized character clothing in seconds, serving as a transformative resource for 3D modelers, character artists, game developers, and studios.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will contribute to transferring cutting-edge technologies into GENERA’s existing technical infrastructure. This includes conducting pioneering research in generative AI for 3D generation, and assessing, testing, and benchmarking new products and processes.
Key Qualifications and Skills
Education/Experience:
A PhD in a relevant field (e.g., computer graphics, machine learning, computer game development and technologies), or
Equivalent extensive experience in a relevant sector, or
A Master’s degree with significant experience in research projects.
Technical Expertise:
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in optimized mesh processing, with a comprehensive portfolio demonstrating skills in low and high poly baking, UV mapping, texture baking, submesh creation, and lighting techniques for 3D character clothing.
Advanced proficiency in leading 3D software, including Marvelous Designer, Maya, ZBrush, and Substance Painter, with strong skills in using auto-retopology tools for efficient asset development.
Hands-on experience with image-to-3D AI generative tools, such as Luma, CSM, Alpha3D, Kaedim, and Meshy, and familiarity with cutting-edge generative AI methodologies for 3D modeling.
Proficiency with game engines, particularly Unity, and experience with asset production pipelines and Unity plug-ins/SDKs/tools.
Collaboration and Teamwork:
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, including constructive engagement with senior staff and support for less experienced team members or students.
Preferred experience with higher education or industry collaborations involving AI and/or 3D modeling.
