Finance Leadership - Head of Financial Accounting

Purpose of position
Forterra is a leading UK producer of manufactured masonry products, listed on the London Stock Exchange with 16 manufacturing facilities across the UK, revenues in excess of £300m and around 1,600 employees.
Working as a key member of the senior finance team, this role has a wide remit covering financial accounting, central accounting processes and internal controls within the Group. Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, the team has responsibility for external financial reporting, management of external audit, technical accounting for the Group, and assistance in implementing controls and processes within all areas of the business.
Key accountabilities
* Direct management of a small team within finance, supporting the wider finance team as required to provide technical support and continuously improve financial reporting across the Group.
* Authority on technical accounting and reporting matters.
* Timely and accurate public reporting of Group half year and year end results under IFRS.
* Assistance with preparation of the full annual report and interim results, along with other regulatory news as required.
* Preparation of UK Statutory Accounts.
* Ownership/management of the external audit process.
* Responsibility for central accounting within the Group, including but not limited to fixed assets, lease accounting, share-based payments, derivatives, restoration and decommissioning provisions, and central overheads. Business partnering with key stakeholders, month-end accounting, budgeting and forecasting for these areas.
* Review of and assistance with other technical accounting matters including inventory valuation.
* Preparation of the monthly consolidation including balance sheet and cash flow reporting for the plc Board.
* Preparation of technical accounting memos for management, the external auditors and the plc Board.
* Internal control maintenance and continuous improvement across the business. Supporting the business as required to meet new FRC corporate governance requirements on internal controls. Engagement with teams both at head office and on site.
* Assisting in covenant and other reporting to the group's lenders.
Job requirements
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop strong working relationships across the business.
* Ability to communicate technical accounting matters to non-accountants.
* Highly analytical and detail-oriented.
* Experience of managing small teams.
* Strong, up-to-date knowledge of IFRS, FRS 101 and FRS 102 with demonstrable technical experience.
* A qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA), ideally from a practice background. Post-qualification experience is essential.
