Consultant Anaesthetist (Interest Upper GI, Vascular, Orthopaedics)

The post is for a full-time Consultant Anaesthetist with a special interest in either Upper GI, Vascular or Orthopaedics (3 posts) and a wider department of 91 Consultants, 9 Specialists, 7 SAS and 21 speciality doctors, to provide a comprehensive anaesthetic service to the University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust. The selected candidates will be responsible for providing and maintaining a safe, robust service and will have a wide knowledge in all aspects of general anaesthesia and perioperative medicine.
Main duties of the job
* To actively engage and participate in the delivery of safe and effective anaesthetic services in support of the orthopaedics, acute trauma, CEPOD, upper GI, regional anaesthesia, fragility fracture service and adult general anaesthetic workload at the University Hospital of North Midlands (Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital).
* To provide, alongside other consultant anaesthetists, leadership and strategic direction in the provision, development and assurance of safe and effective anaesthetic care.
* To lead and participate in clinical governance and quality improvement activities in the wider anaesthetic directorate.
* To actively participate in teaching, training and supervision of anaesthetic postgraduate doctors in training (PGDiTs) and medical students from Keele Medical School.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* FRCA
* Specialist Registration (CCT or CESR)
* Postgraduate qualification in Medical Education
* Qualification in Research
* Fellowship in Perioperative Medicine
Academic Achievements, Research & Publications
* Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical practice
* Experience of and commitment to clinical audit
* Willingness to participate in research
* Proven research ability including research publications in indexed journals
Management & Administration Experience
* Experience of audit management
* Previous possession of leadership/management roles
Clinical Experience & Training
* Advanced Training or Fellowship in speciality relevant to proposed job plan
* Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates
* Advanced Life Support Instructor
* ATLS Provider or Instructor

Salary: £105,504 to £139,882 a year (Pro-rata for part-time)
