Ob Specification: Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Location: Aldermaston, Reading
Salary: £30,000 - £40,000 per annum
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM
Job Overview:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Assistant Quantity Surveyor with experience in civil engineering, specifically in RC frames and groundworks, to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated professional to further their career in a supportive and dynamic environment, working on a variety of challenging civil engineering projects. You will be responsible for assisting senior surveyors in managing costs and ensuring that all projects are delivered within budget and on time.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in preparing cost estimates, budgets, and final accounts for civil engineering projects, with a focus on RC frames and groundworks.
Support the senior quantity surveyors in managing project costs, including value engineering and cost control.
Review and monitor project progress and costs, ensuring compliance with agreed budgets and contracts.
Assist in preparing and issuing tender documents, reviewing bids, and preparing recommendations.
Carry out site visits to monitor project progress, liaise with site teams, and ensure work is carried out to specification and within the agreed timeframes.
Assist in the preparation of interim valuations and final accounts.
Support the procurement process, including preparing bills of quantities and helping to evaluate contractor claims.
Work closely with project teams, contractors, and clients to ensure smooth communication and issue resolution.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards on-site.
Maintain accurate records and contribute to the preparation of reports for senior management.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
Relevant Qualification: Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum 1-2 years of experience in quantity surveying within civil engineering, with specific experience in RC frames and groundworks projects.
Skills:
Strong understanding of cost estimation and budget management.
Knowledge of construction contracts (JCT, NEC, etc.) and tendering procedures.
Familiarity with the use of quantity surveying software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.).
Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Desirable Skills & Attributes:
Previous experience working on large-scale civil engineering projects involving RC frames and groundwork.
Membership or working towards membership with a professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB, etc.) is desirable but not essential.
Strong time-management and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
