This is an exciting opportunity for a first-rate cardiologist with sub-specialty expertise in pacing, devices, and inherited cardiac conditions to join our vibrant team.
The successful candidate will be expected to deliver clinical services encompassing all aspects of device implantation and inherited cardiac conditions. An academic profile is desirable. The candidate will also be expected to have substantial experience in clinical cardiology and participate in the general cardiology on-call rota, currently 1:11.
The department has four state-of-the-art cardiac catheterisation laboratories, and our highly skilled devices team at UHNM implanted over 1100 devices in 2023/24, including 200 ICD, 130 CRT, and a small number of Micra, Sub-q, and his bundle devices. The department also offers a lead extraction service, which is growing for our tertiary population of patients. The devices service is supported by an experienced and well-qualified cardiac scientific workforce, who provide a 24/7 on-call service for pacing. There is also a dedicated advanced nurse practitioner supporting the devices team.
In addition to cardiac devices, this is an opportunity to further develop the department's well-established inherited cardiac conditions service. Monthly specialist clinics take place for patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and clinics occur regularly for patients with muscular dystrophies. The aortopathy service currently looks after over 800 patients, including those with Marfan syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos, and Loeys-Dietz syndrome. The department looks after patients with the full range of channelopathies with strong links with the paediatric department in Stoke and Birmingham children's hospital supporting a complete family service. The ICC service is supported by a dedicated advanced nurse practitioner with master's level training in genetics.
