CCOT deliver a 24/7 service across both our Stoke Mandeville and Wycombe General Hospitals.
Main duties of the job
The key components of the role are:
1. To avert admissions by identifying patients who are deteriorating and either helping to prevent admission or ensuring admission to a critical care bed happens in a timely manner
2. To enable discharges by supporting the continuing recovery of discharged critical care patients and their significant others.
3. To share critical care skills with staff in wards, ensuring enhancement of training opportunities and skills practice and to use information gathered from the ward and community to improve critical care services for patients and relatives.

Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
13. Registered Nurse (Level 1)/ AHP/ODP
14. Recognised mentorship/teaching and assessing course
15. First degree in relevant professional studies desirable
16. Evidence of further continued professional development
17. Post qualification Critical Care Course or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
18. Masters level education or working towards
19. Accredited Leadership/Management Course
20. ALS provider
21. Recognised history taking and physical assessment course or willingness to undertake
22. Non-medical prescribing course or willingness to undertake
Experience
Essential criteria
23. Recent extensive experience as a Band 6 in ICU or equivalent Critical Care/Acute area
24. Previous experience as shift/team leader
25. Experience of teaching/mentoring/ coaching of the multi-professional team
Desirable criteria
26. Experience of performing outreach role
27. Experience of involvement in Quality Improvement/ successful change management
Skills, Knowlege and Abilities
Essential criteria
28. Excellent personal and communication skills (written & verbal)
29. Knowledge of current developments in nursing practice and critical care outreach
30. Managerial, leadership and interpersonal skills
31. Demonstrates ability to think laterally, creatively and innovatively to enhance patient care
32. Highly motivated and ability to motivate others and Able to facilitate and support learning in practice
33. Excellent IT skills, able to work with a range of software i.e. Microsoft office, Excel, Word etc
34. Good facilitation/presentation, teaching and assessing skills
35. Ability to work autonomously and within a team, displaying excellent team working
SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
