Job Summary
Mendip Vale Medical are looking for further Clinical Coders to join our Sunnyside team, as we expand in our friendly and innovative practices serving over 85,000 patients within our 10 sites in North Somerset, Bristol & South Gloucester.
As a Scanner and Coder, you will assist in the processing clinical documents to ensure that the appropriate care can be provided to patients in a timely, efficient and effective way.
Main Duties of the Job
Working as part of the on-site team (this role is not remote), the post-holder will assist in the processing of clinical documents. The post-holder will be responsible for the accurate recording of paper, electronic, and result documents into clinical records, including the coding of data and identification of relevant processing requirements in accordance with the Practice Read Coding Protocol.
The Clinical Read Coder will develop good working relationships with:
* GPs, nurses, and other surgery staff
* Patients
* External Organisations
Key Responsibilities:
* Support the Clinical team in the delivery of safe and efficient document management systems of patient medical records.
* Input patient information into the clinical medical systems.
* Coding electronic and paper-related correspondence and results accurately and consistently.
* Effective use of anatomical and physiological terms and knowledge to find relevant codes and link problems.
* Check patient tasks and take action to complete as required.
* Process email correspondence.
* Control all patient files and related admin to required quality standards and in line with information governance, GDPR, and DPA regulations.
* Maintain accurate records.
Other Responsibilities:
* Understand performance targets and KPIs and proactively work with the team to resolve any issues.
* Support practice developments and changes (e.g., changes to service, policies, structure, etc.).
* Undertake any other duties commensurate with the post-holder's role as agreed with the management team.
* Attend training and events organised by the Surgery or other agencies, where appropriate.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential:
* GCSE in English and Maths at Grade C or above, or equivalent experience.
* Evidence of continued learning/personal development in the relevant field.
Desirable:
* NVQ3 in Administration or equivalent or working towards.
Experience
Essential:
* Experience delivering customer service relevant to accurate recording of data.
* Understanding of medical terminology and coding.
* Good range of IT knowledge including Word, Excel, email, and databases.
Desirable:
* Experience implementing service improvements and clinical data.
* Experience using GP clinical systems (e.g., EMIS) and understanding of medical terminology and basic anatomy.
Skills and Abilities
