The Opportunity
Our client is currently recruiting for a Principal EC&I Engineer to join their Nuclear Power and Engineering Technical Services (NPETS) business. NPETS is entering an exciting phase of opportunity, supporting our key client’s UK nuclear fleet through a business transformation, and supporting new small modular reactor developers as they prepare for deployment in the UK and internationally. Our work varies, covering New Build, Generation, Life Extension, and Defueling, and our capabilities are in demand across the nuclear sector.
Centre to the success of the role will be your people skills, building effective relationships and interacting with multiple internal and external stakeholders in multiple locations.

The role
As a Principal EC&I Engineer, your role will be to manage, co-ordinate and deliver varied and exciting EC&I centric engineering projects. If you’re familiar with project delivery, you’ll know that they have plenty of moving parts and complexity, which is why you’ll be working alongside our Operations Managers and Engineering Managers to deliver holistic and integrated solutions.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
Act as the Responsible Engineer on projects
Lead project delivery teams across the project lifecycle from bid generation, through concept and detailed design development to installation and commissioning.
You’ll also work closely with colleagues to support activities that offer the best service to the client. Through your interactions, you’ll be able to gather useful intelligence on client needs and work with the team to deliver innovative solutions.
Own and manage project budgets.
Built and manage client relationships and leverage those relationships to deliver continued opportunities and new business leads.
Work on systems integration, testing and validation of PLC, SCADA and simulator systems.
Demonstrate knowledge of the practical aspects of implementing engineering designs and understand the use of standards and compliance with regulatory requirements in an engineering environment.
Produce high-quality technical reports.
Simplify complex problems and build and maintain valuable relationships.You will have the following qualifications & experience
MEng, MSc, BEng or BSc or equivalent in EC&I or another relevant discipline, chartered Engineer status with a relevant professional body.
Previous team leadership, line management, technical lead or Responsible Engineer experience.
An awareness of civil nuclear plant systems, structures and components and associated design and assessment guidelines (or relevant engineering principles from other highly regulated industries).
An understanding of the relevant guidelines, standards and practices (e.g., IEC 61508, 61511, 61513, 61226, ONR SAPs / TAGS).
Knowledge and experience in the systematic design lifecycle of a C&I system; including specification, design, assessment, verification, testing, installation, commissioning and maintenance of safety or process critical I&C Systems.
Knowledge of high integrity hardware or software-based control systems for industrial equipment.
Motivated team member with the ability to work to deadlines and communicate project progress.
Good communication skills and ability to articulate information to a broad range of stakeholders.

Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a nuclear licenced site. These can include, nuclear fuel, radiation, chemicals and gasses, high voltage equipment, moving vehicles, flammable materials, high pressure circuits, steam, high noise and vibration levels. A full site induction will be provided and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.
